Ad’ar – History

Ad’ar is An Arab grassroots (NGO) established in June 2016 in Haifa.

The association was initiated by Arab Palestinian activist professionals in the light of a dramatic increase in gender-based crimes/ Femicide against women in the Arab Palestinian society in Israel; so, called “Family”.

Ad’ar’s goal is to contribute to the elimination of Femicide within the Arab Palestinian society in Israel particularly and in the Israeli society generally through treating the therapists and to develop a “method of Intervention” for all professionals working with women victims of Gender-Based violence.

Ad’ar is a unique and innovating organization in this field in that its focus is to empower the professionals working to eliminate violence and prevent the murder of women in the community. Mostly these professionals are members of the same community as the victims and the murderers and are themselves subject to the same threats as the victims.

Ad’ar promotes the professional work of its main target group, social workers, psychologists, and educational consultants, from different frameworks, by mentoring, guidance, and training of professional personnel. Ad’ar constantly seeks methods and best practices to facilitate greater social activism and to develop effective tools of “risk Assessment”  which can empower the professionals to eliminate violence towards women and to protect them from murder.
