Ad’ar (“March”) is an Arab grassroots NGO established in June 2016 in Haifa, Israel. The association is the birth of an activity initiated by Arab activist professionals in 2011 that emerged in light of the increase of gender-based crimes against women within the Arab Palestinian society in Israel, so-called “honor murders”. Ad’ar was officially established. The members, working voluntarily, consist of female and male activist professionals and scholars in social work and mental health, specializing in working with and treating battered women. We focus on the psychological and social analysis aspects. Ad’ar’s goal is to contribute to the elimination of “honor murders” within the Arab Palestinian society in Israel and to Develop the Wizard of Intervention for all professionals working with battered women. The innovation of this organization is by focusing on the professional group, as our main target group. Ad’ar promotes professional work through:
1. Mentoring, guidance, and training of professional personnel, (e.g., social workers, psychologists, and educational consultants) from different frameworks, working directly on eliminating violence and protecting women from murder. We constantly seek methods and best practices to widen the social activism in this matter.
2. Providing a space for deep intellectual dialogue and sharing of experiences, dilemmas, fears, and difficulties resulting from the intensive emotional exposure due to intensive treatment of battered women.
3. Establishing a process of mutual support and solidarity among the professionals due to their helplessness and frustration, mainly because of their inability to stop and prevent the next murder.
